For those who haven't heard of Schaumburg, it is a village in Cook and DuPage Counties, Illinois. The Village is located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and dates back to the 19th century when it was inhabited by Native American tribes before German and British settlers arrived.
In 1976, the Village began following a system where they created a council-management form of government. Schaumburg's chief executive officer is the Village President which is an elected position. Six individuals are also elected by the village residents to serve as members of the Board of Trustees. A chief administrative officer is appointed in the form of a full-time Village Manager, who is chosen by means of the Village Board. There are also two important positions in the form of the Village Corporate Counsel and the Village Clerk acting as the keeper of records. The current Village President is Al Larson.
The Fire Department (Fire Prevention Bureau), was first created in 1966. The Fire Chief is appointed by the Village Manager. This department is divided into two divisions; operations and administrative services, each of which is under the supervision of one of the two deputy chiefs appointed.
Schaumburg Township is located in Hoffman Estates. It provides services for several towns and villages in addition to Schaumburg such as Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, Hanover Park and several other communities in Cook County.
